Distance Changes in Mileage Expenses
Declaree uses Google Maps to calculate the distance for mileage expenses. Occasionally, you may notice that the same trip returns different distances.
Why Distances Can Differ
Google Maps determines the optimal route at the moment you create the expense. This means the distance can change depending on conditions such as:
Traffic jams.
Road closures or diversions.
Example:
In the morning, Google detects heavy traffic and suggests an alternative route.
Later the same day, without traffic, it suggests the usual faster route.
As a result, the mileage distance shown in Declaree will differ.
Declaree relies on Google’s API to provide live route data. This ensures accuracy in real-world conditions, but it also means distances may vary depending on the time you log your mileage.
Reducing Variance
To make results more consistent, you can enable the option to always select the shortest route:
Google will return up to three possible routes.
Declaree will then automatically select the shortest one.
This reduces variance, but small differences may still occur.
Best Practices
Always enter complete addresses (not just city names) for more consistent calculations.
Use the shortest route option if you want to minimize distance fluctuations.
